Trowbridge Museum News

New Exhibition
Sprinting in to Trowbridge Museum on Saturday 11th February will be our latest exhibition ‘Trowbridge Sporting heroes and a history of the Olympics’

The exhibition will briefly chart the Olympics origins in Ancient Greece, the earliest recorded Games being in 776 BC, but it will very much have local slant.

There will be plenty of material about Trowbridge's sporting talent and from all sports backgrounds including football, snooker, table tennis as well as those who are involved in sports with a more direct link to the Olympics. We will also be revealing some of the town's current Olympic hopefuls.

The exhibition will acknowledge the cultural dimension to the Games and will celebrate Trowbridge's literary talent ranging from the poet George Crabbe to children's author and illustrator Alan Snow.

Families will get the chance to rise to our indoor Olympic Challenge on Thursday 16th February as part of our Half-term fun. The games to master will include Hopscotch, Bagatelle, Shove halfpenny, Hoopla and Skittles.

The exhibition is being opened by our very own Victorian athlete (see picture) splendidly dressed in traditional running costume and the Mayor of Trowbridge Councillor Nick Blakemore at 12 noon on Saturday 11th February.
